Problem:
conceptualise a design system for a venue that hosts a broad range of different events.
Solution:
A system that showcases the magic of venue on equal par with the event its putting on that allows for a broad range of applications to suit different messages.
The Archway Tavern
As a favour to a pub I used to play gigs at, I created a new identity system to help create cohesion across different channels and types of events they put on. So no matter what they wanted to promote, the pub’s character would always be present.
The Idea
Like most venues, The Archway tavern has a variety of different events, a little bit of everything from stand-up to punk gigs. The design concept celebrates that eclectic charm of an independent venue. It all happens here - “under the arch”. Framing the content in the arch puts the venue on equal par with the event.
Adaptable
As this was a one off favour, the identity had to be adaptable and easy enough to understand given the pub does not have a permanent designer. To address this, the arch has a fixed ratio to the sides of the canvas no matter what aspect ratio. As a design system, it takes the guess work out of composition for non designers.
